N. J. Vaughan (No tests)

A special page to mark the occasion of Nigel Vaughan
reaching 75 not out on 16th February, 2021

N. J. Vaughan playing record with C.C.C.C.C.C.C.

Nigel is a fellow S.C.E.P.T.I.C. (see C.C.C.C.C.C.Cs page) choir member and 7Cs player who bowled the ball even slower than I did in his cricketing days. Many of his victims ran out of patience waiting for the ball to arrive on its high floating trajectory before it gently nudged the stumps dislodging the bails. If a wild swing did make contact the ball might be caught in some distant area of the outfield on the odd occasion when ball, fielder and hands all arrived at the same place at the same time.

Had we been in ‘normal’ times we would now be taking an extended luncheon interval in a suitable hostelry on a necessarily short (r)amble allowing plenty of time for the former rather than the latter. Hopefully some of our mutual friends and colleagues will see this site today and add their congratulations on reaching another career best of 75*.

  1. Many thanks Chris. I’m afraid Wisden didn’t think my exploits on the field worthy of mention. Mr. Teague, many thanks for your kind comments. See you both on Friday. NJV (aka Don Shepherd)

  2. Great evening matches down after work at Boscawen Park in those summer days playing different departments and local banks – Great days and Mr Vaughan deadly with that small red ball – Legend 🏏

  3. I have very good memories of the 7 C’s at Boscawen which always had reasonable wickets. I recall one year we won more games than we lost – it could have been 1991 as the photo. We each brought something different to the team. I remember your fielding and bowling Nigel – float like a butterfly sting like a bee !
    Happy birthday.

  4. One of my 7C’s memories, apart from the number of times Poxy ran me out, was Nigel running the wrong way but still taking a catch off my bowling! I don’t call him the Welsh Wizard for nothing!
